I am the executor on my grandfathers estate. The estate/probate case is still pending. What about taxes?

In order to file my taxes this year, will I need to include any additional forms when I file my taxes. Nothing has been sold. I have paid the first part of taxes on the estate in December, 2007, and the other half is due by May 15, 2008. I live in the State of Kansas if that matters. I don’t have the money to hire an attorney to ask this question to. Any help would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!!

There’s nothing you’ll need to file with your return unless you have received some executor’s fees. Remember that you will need to file a “Final” return for your grandfather for income, etc. up to his date of death. Not enough info to know whether you’ll need to file a Fiduciary return for the estate.

Your return is separate from your grandfather’s estate. If he died in 2007, you will need to file a final tax return in his name. Any taxes due should be paid for from his estate. You really should get an estate attorney to help you.
