My father is supposed to be receiving an inheritance check from the will of his late brother, and the whole probate court stuff is going on in Vermont. His sister is also getting half of the money, since her name was on the will as well, and I was wondering after the final documents are signed, how long does it take for the courts to close the case and send the check?

It may take a few days to a few weeks to a few months depending on how complicated the estate is.

If the assets are liquid, it will take very little time. If some of the assets are in real estate or a business, it could take years.

    He should ask his attorney.
