Ask for a copy of the will, it will be public record once it’s filed at the probate court. You can also ask the person handling the estate, or of course if the person is still alive the actual person. If you’re mentioned in it the person handling the execution of the will contact you since they’ll need to get paperwork signed and/or property handed over. Note that just because you’re mentioned for getting something does NOT mean you’ll be getting it. The estate must be settled before anyone inherits anything per the will, and this means all their debts must be paid before you get that nice house they lived in.
