My husband died recently. There was no will, no life insurance, no savings or investments, and no real estate. I am hesitating to spend what little I have on a probate lawyer, as I am certain that due to medical expenses and his personal unsecured debt, the net estate of my husband is several thousand $ negative. Is probate required?
